| Georges Le Meilleur was born in Rouen into a family of textile
industrials. Breaking away from family tradition, he moved to Paris. At
the age of 21, he enrolled in the Fine Arts School of Paris, the Cormon
studio.
He visited southern France, Brittany and Venice, but found his greatest
inspiration in the landscapes of Ile-de-France and Normandy.
Le Meilleur was an engraver as well as a painter. His first drypoint
engraving dates from 1882. He also had a particular passion for trees.
